About Us

Design studio

Typeland is an independent type design studio based in London. We develop custom fonts for clients, work on collaborative and commissioned projects, and (will very soon) offer retail fonts licenced exclusively through our own website.

For our retail library, taking a broad-minded view of design possibilities and an intrepid approach to exploration, we create typefaces that we thoroughly enjoy crafting, as well as using. In other words, we design unapologetically to counter tedium and neutrality (whatever that may be).

For questions about our retail fonts, custom work, licensing, or to inquire about a commission, please feel free to write to us at hello@type.land

Vaibhav’s design practice is intimately connected with his involvement in scholarly research, which focuses on the history of design and technology in multilingual South Asian contexts. He was awarded the Felix Scholarship for his MA as well as for his PhD studies at Reading, and a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2017. For his subsequent research projects he has received fellowships and grants from the British Library, the National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution Libraries, Lemelson Center, Printing Historical Society, Design History Society, and the Willison Foundation, among others.
