We like to take a no-nonsense view of typeface design. No matter what adjectives or narratives they are embellished with, typefaces are not going to change the world. We think that the industry that we are part of can do with a sobering dose of critical awareness in its largely self-congratulatory, and exquisitely empty, public discourse. In the age of endless bluster and unreflective outpourings, our practice aims to extend the small provocations of quietude and honest work. Our retail library simply offers typefaces that we enjoy crafting as well as using. No hyperbolic claims, no fluffy descriptions, no contrived process stories — just fonts for what they’re worth.

Alessia Mazzarella is an independent typeface designer and educator, with a number of years of experience in font engineering, font mastering, and quality assurance. She has previously worked as a senior type designer at Fontsmith, as a senior font developer at The Northern Block, and has developed original typefaces for URW Asterisk and Google Fonts. She holds an MA in Typeface Design from the University of Reading, in addition to degrees in Graphic Design from Central Saint Martins, London, and Graphic & Media Design from Sapienza University of Rome.

Vaibhav Singh is an independent typographer and typeface designer. He holds degrees in architecture, visual communication, typeface design, literature, and book history. He was awarded the Felix scholarship for his MA as well as for his PhD at the University of Reading, where he was subsequently a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow. Pursuing a wide-ranging freelance practice for over a decade, he has worked as a graphic designer, book designer, and exhibition designer in Mumbai, Delhi, Panjim, Reading, and London. He specialises in designing typefaces for Indian scripts in addition to developing Latin typefaces. He is also the editor and publisher of the journal Contextual Alternate.
